Prohited activities in acting workshop

Prohibited activities in acting workshop
By: Mondex Professional

Two basic benefits you may benefit from acting workshop - honing acting skills and networking with the people in the industry.

Acting is not a talent per se, it is a skill that can be developed through constant practice. Becoming an actress demands for a workshop. Actors and actresses especially in LA and NY try to advance their acting skills though acting workshops. Acting workshops are usually conducted by private individuals or organizations who hire casting professional to teach personally the participants. The participants who are new actors and actresses pay the casting professional, usually paid for the hours spent. There are however some volunteer organizations that offer free workshops but these are usually open for amateurs and not for professionals.

Recently, in response to a controversial Kretorian talent scam, the California has promulgated a legislation entitled, "The Krekorian Talent Scam Prevention Act", effective January 2010 prohibiting acting workshops to conduct and accept participants in the guise or intention of conducting auditions for their casting projects. Because of this, acting workshops should only serve as an acting school and networking avenue for talents and casting professionals. Note however that this legislation can be circumvented as casting professional may still clandestinely conduct audition. After all, no talents would complaint unless their rights are abused.

Worthy to quote for further reading of this prohibition is an excerpt from AB 1319, as amended. "Existing law regulates the licensing and operation of talent services within the entertainment industry. These provisions govern the making and canceling of contracts, fees to be charged for services, records to be maintained by talent services, bonding requirements, and remedies for violations of these provisions, a violation of which constitutes a crime. This bill would prohibit a person from engaging, as specified, in an advance-fee talent representation service, as defined. This bill would also impose additional disclosure and contract requirements for a talent service, as defined. The bill would make a willful violation of its provisions a misdemeanor and subject to a civil action. Because the bill would create new crimes, it would impose a state-mandated local program. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason."

Read from the bill introduced in the legislative council of the State of California, the following are some prohibited activities in response to the celebrated case Kretorian talent scam.

First, any person cannot ask for an advance fee in return for a mere offer to engage talent services, an offer to manage the career of the talent, for an audition, or for a service to look for a talent agent or talent manager.

Second, talent agents or talent agencies shall not cause any misleading advertisement, information, promise or offer.

Third, talent agents or agencies shall not directly operate nor own an acting workshop.

Fourth, any person shall not refer to any talent agents or casting professional who accepts a fee in advance.

Fifth, talent listing service shall not directly or indirectly operate, own or financially interested in any acting workshop or any other talent training service or talent counseling service.

Caveat this is a digested information of Article 5 Prohibited Acts of Bill AB 1319, as introduced to the State of California legislators, Krekorian, February 27, 2009.

How much should I allocate for online advertising budget

August 15, 2010

Published: wikispaces.com

Advertising expenses is one of the major expenses of an organization. Part of the advertising expenses is allocated largely on online advertising. In 1990s, most of the advertising is allocated on TV ads and radio ads; however, with the huge usage of internet worldwide, advertisers now shifted to the newest media of advertising – online advertising.

Budgeting is the most crucial part of planning. In fact, budgeting requires specialized expertise to attain a measureable output. The basic question in deriving a budget allocation is – how much are you willing to spend for a desired output. Desired output is measurable. Hence, desired output is dependent on the amount of money you spent for a certain campaign. The best example is Google Adwords. Google Adwords is a Pay Per Click (PPC) campaign.

Without much ado, let’s check three methods in arriving a budget for our online advertising.

(1)    Percentage of Sales – Under this approach advertising spending is set based on either a percentage of previous sales or a percentage of forecasted sales. Generally, an organization set next year’s advertising budget at 3% of this year’s sales level. For instance, if 10 million is the sales for 2009, then three hundred thousand of this should be allocated to online advertising. In this manner, statistics graph for sales and online advertising must have a direct relation. In short, as the sales increases, online advertising budget also increases. Alternatively, companies may consider allocating advertising funds based on a percentage of forecasted sales. In this way, advertising is viewed as a driver of future sales and spending on advertising is linked directly to meeting future sales forecasts. However, since future sales are not guaranteed, the actual percentage spent may be considerably higher than expected if the sales forecast is greater than what actually occurs.

(2)    Affordability – Small companies find spending of any kind to be constraining. Advertising may be just one of several tightly allocated spending areas and; thus, the level spent on advertising may vary over time. As such, advertising may only occur when extra funds are available.

(3)    Best Guess – Companies entering new markets often lack knowledge of how much advertising is needed to achieve their objectives. In cases where the market is not well understood, marketers may rely on their best judgment (i.e., executive’s experience) of what the advertising budget should be.

In summary, online advertising is measurable and definite when it comes to budgeting, e.g. PPC or pay per click management, social networking ads, Google adwords. These methods of budgeting are measurable because mathematically, a certain amount spent has a definite corresponding result for it based on well-studied online advertising campaign. The challenge however is on the conversion on its definite money that can give out of the campaign. Again, this can be measured thorough the use of analytic tool where we can monitor how far our campaign makes conversion.

Hence, to have  definite and more successful online advertising, it is more advisable to apply the first method (percentage of sale) the same as being used by many in all forms of advertising like TV, print ad etc.

How an autopilot can generate site's traffic

August 13, 2010

Posted in hubpages.com

Autopilot offers a different kind of strategy of driving traffic. It has proven better chances to work effectively. Strategies that may not promise to get you rich so sudden, but will give you a good cash flow as time goes on.

The basic principles behind this strategy includes the following:
     • A focused target market
     • A high demand of the product
     • A marketing strategy
     • Automation

First, you need to locate a hungry crowd (target market). Crowd that is much interested with a certain topic you may want to promote. The bigger the crowd, the better because it would offer you greater chances of driving traffic to your site.

Then look for keywords that has high searches on Google, yet lesser competition. A keyword could be a word or a phrase you would want to market. You may use keyword analysis softwares for obtaining the data you would need. Long-tailed keywords may consist of three or more words, not too specific, but not too general. Although these keywords has lesser searches on google, you have better chances of overcoming competitions in that particular keyword. Optimizing a very general one-word keyword would be useless due to obviously large number of competitions.

The strategy is to use long-tailed keywords with less competitions. These keywords may have less searches but when added up, would be a great source of constant flow of traffic to your website. When feeding a hungry crowd, you would need to offer what they would need (somewhat offer them products that they are really interested off). Your targets are the crowd that would surely purchase. Quality should be taken into account when endorsing because that is what most buyers wanted. This is the basic principle when you market a product. If you don’t have your own product to market, then you could do reselling or promoting an affiliate product. Traffic driven by your affiliates can be reflected back to your website.

But if you have your own product, then you can certainly market them on your own. You just simply need a store. A store may not be necessarily a website but you could just drive traffic to the site you are affiliated for. Of course, owning a website would be better, but if you have less knowledge with it, your site could simply be just a landing page where you could endorse your product. Setting up a website would simply be buying a domain and have a host-server do the hosting for your website.

How to Identify Online Scammer

August 8, 2010
Quoted in selfstartersweeklytips.com

I have been in online business for quite long time. Though, there are already measures and accreditation made by some advocates to stop identity fraud in the internet, I would say that there are still clever people who use their ingenuity to gain and take advantage of the ignorance of some of our friends.

I want to share these basic things which I think could safeguard your transactions online. I also encourage people to share their thoughts so that we can help and protect people especially newbies by publishing other measures not mentioned herein.

1.    Ask - Ask for their real name and their social networking membership like facebook, twitter, etc.
2.    Research - If they cannot provide their social network membership, search their names by using search engine and counter validate it to the information they have provided to you.
3.    Contact - If they have a website, try to contact the claimed website and submit an inquiry. If they responded to you, probably they are real people to transact with. But that is not enough yet!
4.    Verify – You have to verify the reputation of the website by checking free tools showing the reputation and reviews e.g., alexa.com. There are also reviews available online in some instances.
5.    Contract - In every big transactions where you can’t afford to lose your invested time, effort and money, try to execute a contract. The venue and jurisdiction clause of the contract should provide the most convenient forum in your part. This will put you in the advantageous position to run after them in case court litigation may arise. Our states can help you run after them as almost all of the states adhere to the international covenant of contract. If your state lacks specific law in helping you to enforce your claim against a person located in another jurisdictions (which is a rare case), try to lobby the same before your legislatures.

However, the above mentioned content is not a hard and fast rule. There are of course a lot of measures depending on the nature of your online transaction. Nevertheless do not hold back from any opportunities that an online transaction can offer to you. You won’t know, your missed transaction would have made a dramatic change to your life.

Aiming to be the top of Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines is the goal of every website owner. There are several techniques to reach this: link building, forum posting, directory listing, social bookmarking, etc. Undoubtedly, these can really help increase traffic in a website.

However, Isn’t it tedious to hire a number of people and spend a lot of money to do all of these things? Definitely, this is the reason why several softwares are now in the market. We are so grateful that in today’s age, people don’t stop developing technologies that makes our life easier.  To have an effective software or technology to address this pressing need in promoting websites, however, we have to consider the following basic points before designing a solution for web promotion.

Connecting Links. In an ordinary parlance, having connections makes you survive in this challenging and competitive world. Applying the same principle in website promotion, the more links you have in the web, the greater chances that you survive the competition in making your effort to level-up your ranking in a search engines. Hence, our goal is to have millions of links as possible as we have millions of websites as of date - and more are added everyday.

Quality Links. Not all links can help you. Again, in an ordinary parlance, not all your connections can help you; sometimes they became your competitor and even put you down. Your software design should adhere to getting quality links that will help you reach your target audience. This can be done using correct algorithm identifying websites that can help you push up in the ranking.

Crawling Frequency. Search engines do not continuously crawl the web contents; it has scheduled frequency and time to work too. It works like running over the content in a document when you do scanning. It cannot work instantaneously in just one action.  Have you notice sometimes that when you make an update in your site, your meta description is not automatically updated? This is because crawling has time frequency.

Server Issues. In designing your web promotion solution, you should also take into consideration the server technicalities and issues such as downtime period, transferring to other server, among others.

Caveat! There are so many things to consider in designing your software.  It requires extensive plan and study. These are the only basic points but yet worthy to note, and sometimes developers tend to overlook.  The bottom line is – try to communicate to the search engines.
